Fix It Before You Replace It
City guidelines for historic districts say to repair old walkways before you replace them. Good old brick is worth saving, and it usually costs less than new.
Low Walls And The Rules
Front yard walls follow the same 3 foot limit as fences on most residential lots. In a historic district a wall can need a Certificate of Appropriateness first.
License Rule
State rule says any landscaping job of $1,000 or more in labor and materials needs a contractor license. Ask for the license number on your written estimate, and you can check any license at cslb.ca.gov.
Questions We Hear
